Named Colours
Having to memorise hex codes for all of the colours you’re going to be using can be a pain. CSS includes a range of 17 common colours that you can slot into your stylesheets in place of a hex code. Here are the merry bunch, straight from » the spec:
CSS allows you to use all of the below, hex codes and RGB codes. Thus, all of these definitions are technically the same:
strong {color: red; }
strong {color: #ff0000; }
strong {color: rgb(100%, 0%, 0%); }
On top of these colours, there are a range of others that were specified in the ill-fated “HTML+” specification, which are nonetheless well-supported in most browsers. Please note however, that the majority of the colours below are not web-safe, and so you should try not to use them for large blocks of colour, perhaps only using them for text formatting.
