- Google is the best search engine on the net because it does what it set out to do, and does it best. It's search results are always well-chosen, and it has an index of over a billion pages. You're almost guaranteed to find what you're looking for in that. An elegantly simple interface and some great features for advanced searchers and you've got an unbeatable engine.
» www.google.com - Yahoo!
- Not much of a definition needed, really. One of the most successful websites ever, and one that has been around since the dawn of the web too. Its infamous web directory is a good source of links, and for webmasters, visitors.
» www.yahoo.com - All The Web
- Also known as FAST search, this is a slick search engine (uses CSS it does) with an index of comparable size to Google's. With a good set of features and impressive performance, it's a decent contender.
» www.alltheweb.com - Ask Jeeves
- I may not use this engine a whole lot myself, but I love the gimmick it uses. You ask the eponymous Jeeves a plain-English question, and he will give you back some good results that may help in answering your query. Adding a face to the search engine was a genius idea.
